Museum Admission

Open Wednesday–Sunday, 10:00 AM–4:00 PM

Our indoor and outdoor exhibits are open to a limited number of guests who reserve online in advance.

We have made changes to our cleaning and guest services protocols to keep everyone as safe as possible. Masks are required for anyone three years or older and must cover your nose and mouth at all times while on Museum property. Single-layer materials (e.g., bandanas) and masks with valves are not allowed per CDC guidelines

Tickets are non-refundable. One date change is permitted when requested 24 hours prior to the day of your visit.

We have implemented a one-way flow of movement from the Admissions, through our outdoor exhibits, and exiting past the observatory to the parking lot. Please maintain at least a six foot distance between you and anyone not in your household.

Conversations with a Curator – Economy of the Chumash: Shell Bead Money

The Chumash people produced shell beads for thousands of years in the Santa Barbara Channel region. Join us as Associate Curator of Anthropology Brian Barbier, M.A., discusses his recent experimental archaeological research of the Chumash shell bead money production and exchange. Discover the rich and unique history of a shell-bead-making industry that drove the complex economic exchange of the Chumash and their neighbors. Barbier will demonstrate how shell bead money was made, from shell splitting to final shaping. Learn about cutting-edge methods used to reconstruct this complex economy of the past.

Online Workshop: Art Meets Science – Block Printing Botanicals

Join Maximus Gallery Curator Linda Miller as she gives a sneak peek into our summer exhibit, A Medicine to the Mind, which traces the four-hundred-year-old history of illustrated gardening catalogs. Learn about Tulipmania, the craze for tulips in seventeenth-century Holland. Then follow along with artist Hilary George to learn how to block print your own botanical print.

In each class in the Art Meets Science series, we brush up on some cool science and then introduce new art media and techniques with a fun interactive workshop. Expand your art skills and science knowledge from the comfort of your own home. Pick up your supplies at the Museum or have them shipped locally.

Supplies provided: lino cutter, rubber block, ink, sponge brushes, two blank stationery cards, tea towel, tracing paper, pencil, and washi tape.

Conversations with a Curator – Digging Deep into Dinosaur Evolution

Over hundreds of millions of years, dinosaurs developed a remarkable diversity of traits and lifestyles. Uncover the fascinating evolutionary history of dinosaurs with Jenna Rolle, M.S., one of the paleontologists behind our dinosaur exhibits and an instructor in the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department at Santa Barbara City College. Discover the lineage dinosaurs all shared in common, and what separates them from look-alike contemporaries often mistaken for dinosaurs. Picture the California landscape when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

Join us streaming live from the Sea Center to take a closer look at some live bivalves to learn more about their natural history.

Natural History of Wine, Beer & Spirits VIP Series Tickets
