Museum Admission - Outdoor Areas

Our outdoor spaces—including our Butterfly Pavilion—are open to a limited number of guests who reserve online in advance.

We have made changes to our cleaning and guest services protocols to keep everyone as safe as possible. Masks are required for anyone three years or older and must cover your nose and mouth at all times while on Museum property.

We have implemented a one-way flow of movement from the Admissions Office to the outdoor spaces, through or past the Butterfly Pavilion to the Backyard, and exiting past the observatory to the parking lot. Please maintain at least a six foot distance between you and anyone not in your household.

Art Meets Science: Contrasting Corals in Ink on Watercolor

Saturday, August 15, 2020
11:00 AM–12:00 PM

Expand your art skills and science knowledge from the comfort of your own home. Each class we’ll brush up on some cool science and then introduce new art media and techniques with a fun, interactive workshop.

Dive into the fascinating world of corals with marine biologist Stefanie Coleman. Learn about coral bleaching, stinging cells, and reproduction. Then paint and draw your own coral reef postcard, using watercolor overlaid with pen and ink in a step-by-step process modeled by artist Hilary George.

Supplies provided: watercolor paintbrush, two watercolor paper postcards, watercolor practice paper, selected Koi watercolor pigments in paint palette tray, permanent fine-tip pen, and washi tape.

Supplies are available for curbside pickup at the Museum. Registration is now closed for participants requiring shipments.
